The Delhi High Court has sought an explanation from the premier hospital AIIMS as to how the seats for MS (Surgery) have been filled up by General category as against the qualified candidates this year.

Justice M C Garg directed the AIIMS authorities to furnish an affidavit by June 30 explaining how the institute filled up all six seats for MS (Surgery) and to clarify whether the candidates have qualified and taken seats elsewhere in MS (Surgery).

A petition was filed by Dr Varun Kumar Aggarwal alleging AIIMS failed to follow the procedure while filling up seats for its course in MS (Surgery).

The petitioner alleged that he was deprived of the admission as he was not called for counselling for the seats and the vacancies were filled up by the candidates who had already obtained seats elsewhere by qualifying the All India PG entrance examination.

The High Court directed AIIMS to submit the criteria they adopt for admission into the higher courses.
