A local court on Tuesday awarded life imprisonment to five persons in connection with a murder case of 2013 at Bahera in Darbhanga district.

Additional District and Sessions (ADJ) Judge Sudhakar Singh awarded life sentence to five persons – Ganesh Sahni, Tuuni Lal Sahni, Durga Sahni, Shivji Sahni and Raj Kumar Sahni.

The court, however, acquitted two others – Rajia Devi and Gauri Devi- due to want of evidence in the murder case of one Gulab Sahni who was stabbed to death in July 2013 by the convicts following a land dispute.

It also slapped a fine of Rs 25,000 on each of five convicts.

A total of Rs 1.25 lakh, thus collected as fine, would be paid to the deceased’s wife Mamta Devi. They were convicted under various sections of 302, 149, 148, 341, 323 of IPC.

Additional Public Prosecutor (APP) Poonam Jha said Tunni Lal Sahni and Ganesh Sahni had an altercation with Gulab Sahni on July 8, 2013 in Antaur village.

Ganesh Sahni took away a knife from Tunni Lal Sahni and pierced into Gulab Sahni’s chest killing him on the spot, the APP said.

The deceased’s father Suresh Sahni, a native of Antaur village, had lodged an FIR with Bahera police station against the seven.

Except Ganesh Sahni, who belonged to Jagdishpur village, all other arrested persons belonged to Antaur village of the district.
