The Delhi High Court Wednesday issued notice to the Delhi government on a plea seeking construction of a pedestrian bridge over the busy Lala Lajpat Rai Marg near Jangpura neighbourhood in south Delhi.

The bench of Acting Chief Justice A.K. Sikri and Justice Rajiv Sahai Endlaw issued notices to the transport commissioner, the public works department and Delhi Metro on a petition by the Jangpura Residential Welfare Association.

The association has sought direction to the government to construct a foot over-bridge which would connect the Jangpura metro station with Jangpura Extension and Pant Nagar neighbourhoods.

The association said it had been raising the issue with the urban development department for the last six years.

The absence of a safe option for crossing the road had exposed residents to accident risks, the petition said.

The court would next hear the case March 28.
