Lalit Bhasin, a senior lawyer from India, will take over as the next president of the Inter-Pacific Bar Association (IPBA), a professional organisation of business lawyers from the Asia-Pacific region.
The announcement will be made Saturday at the 22nd IPBA Annual Conference here, according to a release from IPBA.
He will take over from Shiro Kuniya of Japan.
Bhasin is currently the vice president of the Bar Association of India, the president of Society of Indian Law Firm (SILF), and the chairperson of Film Certification Appellate Tribunal of India.
He is also the chairman of the Services Export Promotion Council established by the commerce ministry.
A graduate from Delhi University, Bhasin joined the ranks of the IPBA as its founder-member in 1991.
In his 50-year career, Bhasin has won Indira Gandhi National Unity Award in 1991, and the Plaque of Honour given by the prime minister for his outstanding contribution to rule of law in 2002, the National Law Day Award given by the president in 2007 among others.
IPBA is an international association of business and commercial lawyers, who live in, or otherwise have a strong interest in, the Asia-Pacific region.
Established in April 1991 at Tokyo, IPBA has grown to become a global legal association, with membership drawn from over 65 nations.
