J&K HC asks police dept to create 200 posts of investigating SIs

Jammu and Kashmir High Court has directed the police department to create 200 posts of “investigating sub inspectors” on a fast track basis.

Justice Hasnain Masoodi directed the Director General of Police to move a proposal for creation of the posts of Investigating Sub Inspectors with bachelors degree in Science (Biology and Chemistry) and a three-year Degree in Law as an eligibility qualification.

“Let the proposal in this regard be moved within two weeks by him (DGP).Once the proposal is moved (to the government), let it be considered without allowing it to fall a prey to procedural wrangles and approved within two weeks thereafter,” the court said.

Justice Masoodi passed the orders yesterday while setting aside a trial court’s order acquitting a rape accused as the victim had died before appearing in the witness box.

On creation of the posts, the court directed that the recruitment process be initiated and completed within four weeks.

The court also directed that after their selection and appointment, the officers should be imparted comprehensive training program in forensic tools to be used in investigation in addition to routine training.

The court has asked the DGP to file a compliance report by February 15.
