The sessions court here on Friday granted bail to two Public Works Department officials, facing bribery charges, on personal bonds of Rs 50 lakh each.

Judge KK Tantrapale directed that both the accused should report at the Anti-Corruption Bureau office from Monday to Saturday next week between 10 am and 6 pm.

Later, they would have to report every Monday and Wednesday. Executive Engineer Satish M Chikhalikar and Branch Manager Jagdish M Wagh were caught red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 22,000 from a contractor here on April 30. They had sought bribe for clearing bills. They were in custody since May 3, after a brief hospital stay.

Subsequent searches at Chikhalikar’s house revealed that he had amassed over Rs 14.66 crore wealth disproportionate to known source of income, while Wagh was found to be in possession of assets worth over Rs 2.85 crore.

ACB has also filed cases of abetment against their wives Swati Chikhalikar and Deepika Wagh for helping their respective spouses in hiding the wealth. But the women have not been arrested.
