PUNE: The CBI on Monday received a setback when a Pune Court rejected  the investigating agency’s demand for the custody of the other two accused  Rajesh Bangera and Amit Digwekar, in the rationalist Narendra Dabholkar murder case.  Earlier, the investigation agency managed to get extension for Sharad Kalaskar, another accused in the case.

Kalaskar was taken into custody by CBI from Maharashtra Anti Terrorism Squad (ATS) that was probing Nalasopara arms haul case. On September 6, the court had granted CBI the custody of Amol Kale, another accused, until September 14.

CBI also requested for the extension of custody of Bangera and Digwekar who were originally arrested by Special Investigating Team (SIT) of Karnataka in connection with journalist Gauri Lankesh case but the court of Judicial Magistrate (First Class) S M A Sayyed refused to extend the custody of Digwekar and Bangera.

While Dabholkar (67), a noted anti-superstition activist, was murdered in Pune on August 20, 2013, Jouranalist Guri Lankesh, was shot dead at her house on September 5, 2017.
