The Delhi High Court today sought responses of two lawyers to a letter sent by Tis Hazari court to consider initiating contempt proceedings against them for allegedly abusing and manhandling persons, including a lady advocate, belonging to Northeast region.

A bench of justices G S Sistani and Sangita Dhingra Sehgal issued notice to the alleged contemnor lawyers Azad Chandra Prakash Gautam and Varun Jain and sought their replies by February 12.

The high court passed the order on a letter sent by an Additional District and Sessions Judge who has also referred to an order of the metropolitan magistrate (MM) in whose court the incident had occurred.

The incident had taken place on May 23 last year when the victims had gone to Tiz Hazari court for recording of the statement of a girl from northeast in a molestation case and were allegedly abused and assaulted by some lawyers inside the courtroom of  a magistrate.

The girl, who was allegedly molested on the night of May 22, 2014, outside Vishwa Vidyalaya Metro station by an advocate, was accompanied by her friends and a woman lawyer.

The lawyers, who had gathered inside the courtroom in support of their accused colleague, allegedly hurled abuses against the victim and her supporters and assaulted some of them, including the woman advocate.
The victims have already moved a contempt plea in the high court against the two lawyers and the same is pending before another bench.

Earlier, during hearing of the contempt plea filed by the victims, Delhi Police had told the court that there was sufficient evidence against the two alleged contemnor lawyers.
