A Rajasthan Police Service officer accused of killing criminal Dara Singh in a staged police shootout surrendered before a court here Wednesday, a lawyer said. He was sent to judicial custody till Nov 14.

Additional Superintendent of Police Arsad Ali had been declared a proclaimed absconder in the Oct 23, 2006 killing.

“Arsad Ali surrendered before the special CBI court here Wednesday,” said advocate for Ali, Ajay Kumar Jain. He added the court sent him to judicial custody till Nov 14.

The Supreme Court in January this year handed over the probe to the Central Bureau of Investigation.

Jain, told that he was in the 11-member team of the special operations group of Rajasthan police which was accused of gunning down Dara Singh on the outskirts of Jaipur.

Two IPS officers, Additional Director General of Police A.K. Jain and Inspector General A. Ponnuchami were among the 15 policmen accused in the matter.

While Ponnuchami surrendered before the CBI in May, Jain is still on the run. Jain has also been declared an absconder. Most of the remaining accused policemen have either been arrested or surrendered.
