RAW tentThe Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered a case against unknown officials of external intelligence agency Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) and its unit Special Frontier Force (SFF) and three directors of Sai Baba Builders and Consultants firm on alleged irregularities in purchases of tent by the RAW unit.

This comes after the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) had forwarded the probe to the CBI earlier this month on RAW’s recommendation, sources said.

The case relates to purchase of high altitude tents by SFF during 2009-13, which had caused undue gain of Rs 22 crore to the suppliers.

The agency has filed a First Information Report (FIR) on allegations of “repeatedly showing favours in the supply of pre fabricated shelters for SFF at high altitude locations causing undue gain to the suppliers to the extent of Rs 22 crore.”

According to sources, the three directors involved are: Shyam Sunder Bhatter, Manjari (wife of former defence contractor Shambhu Prasad Singh) and JPN Singh.

The CBI is conducting searches at three places in Delhi and Kolkata on Wednesday.
