Thousands of lawyers in civil courts across the state and also in Patna High Court abstained from their judicial work on a call from the Bar Council of India (BCI) to protest lathi charge on lawyers in Jaipur and Chandigarh recently.

Judicial work in civil courts and Patna High Court remained paralysed as lawyers abstained to protest the lathicharge and other repressive measures adopted against their counterparts in Jaipur and Chandigarh. The call to abstain from judicial work was given by BCI.

Convener of all the three lawyers’ Associations of Patna High Court Yogesh Chandra Verma and Mr Prashant Pratap of Patna High Court Barristers Association said here about 80,000 lawyers across the state stayed from their judicial work.

President of Patna District Lawyers Association Vijay Kumar Himanshu of Patna Civil Court, Patna City Civil Court, Danapur Civil Court and Patna Collectorate besides various tribunals kept themselves away from judicial work.

Incidentally the BCI had made calls to lawyers for abstaining from judicial work across the country to protest the lathicharge on advocates in Jaipur and Chandigarh.
