TMC factional feud: Leader in jail; houses looted

tmcA Trinamool Congress leader and a civic policeman were today remanded in judicial custody till July 7 by a local court for involvement in a clash between two factions of the party at a village in Burdwan district.

TMC leader of Khandaghosh Alok Kajhi and civic policeman Mojammel Mondal were remanded in judicial custody by Chief Judicial Magistrate Salim Ahmed Ansari.

The two were arrested while 16 party activists were booked for last night’s clash between two factions at Kapsit village under Khandaghosh police station, police sources said.

Police from Khandghosh police station resorted to lathicharge to control the situation after they were attacked by the rival TMC activists.

Six TMC activists, injured in the clash were admitted to Burdwan Medical College.

A police picket was posted in the area.

In neighbouring Birbhum district, a number of houses were damaged and looted during the day by two rival groups at Bheramari village under Panrui police station area after the two groups of villagers had heated arguments.

The situation was brought under control after police intervened.

Nemai Das, the leader of the rebel TMC camp said, “It was an attempt to terrorise our supporters so that they do not leave TMC.”

Denying the allegation Seikh Mostafa, a TMC leader said, “The incident initially was not political. It was a dispute between two groups of villagers. TMC was not involved.
