The Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court today directed the Uttar Pradesh government to ensure security to Social Welfare department employee Rinku Singh, who had exposed embezzlement in the department in Muzaffarnagar district.

A bench comprising Justices Umanath Singh and V K Dixit passed this order on the petition filed by Rinku Singh Rahi.

The court has asked the state government to ensure safety to Rinku, besides it has sought details regarding the financial irregularities committed in the department within 10 days.

In the petition it was said that some people had attempted to kill him on March 26, 2009 after he highlighted several financial irregularities in the social welfare department in Muzaffarnagar, where he was posted in 2008.

On March 26, he sat on a protest outside the UP Assembly, but police removed him from the site in the midnight to disallow his protest.

The petitioner has sought a CBI investigation into the matter.
