Karunanidhi reached Tihar Jail Monday evening to meet his daughter and Rajya Sabha member Kanimozhi, who is lodged there in connection with the 2G spectrum case.<\/p>\n<p>The DMK chief, who is in the national capital on a &#8216;personal visit&#8217;, reached the jail premises at around 5.40 pm.<\/p>\n<p>He was escorted by DMK parliamentary party chief T.R. Baalu and Kanimozhi&#8217;s husband G. Aravinthan<\/p>\n<p>Rajathi Ammal &#8211; Kanimozhi&#8217;s mother and the third wife of Karunanidhi &#8211; also accompanied the leader to the prison.<\/p>\n<p>The DMK chief, who came in a black Mercedes, was accompanied by seven security cars.<\/p>\n<p>While a posse of media persons were waiting at gate number three of the high-security jail for more then two hours, Karunanidhi hoodwinked them by entering the jail through the administrative block, which houses top jail officials, including Director General (Prisons) Neeraj Kumar.<\/p>\n<p>The former Tamil Nadu chief minister was unlikely to meet Congress president Sonia Gandhi as he was on a &#8216;personal visit&#8217;, DMK sources said. The DMK is a member of the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance.<\/p>\n<p>He is also likely to meet DMK MP and former communication minister A. Raja as well as Kalaignar TV managing director Sharad Kumar, who too are in jail, the DMK sources added.<\/p>\n<p>Kanimozhi, who was sent to jail by a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) special court Friday after her bail petition was denied, filed an appeal in the Delhi High Court Monday. It will come up for hearing Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;The arrest (of Kanimozhi) is a vendetta against DMK and my family,&#8217; Karunanidhi had said in an open letter to party cadres in the DMK official journal Friday.<\/p>\n<p>In an apparent expression of the DMK&#8217;s disappointment over the arrest of Kanimozhi, none of the six union ministers of the party attended the second anniversary function of the UPA-II government here Sunday.
