In an important judicial pronouncement, the Allahabad High Court today directed the Uttar Pradesh government to notifiy the urban local bodies elections process in the state by October 31 next on the basis of 2011 census.<\/p>\n
The Court also directed the Census department to provide ward-wise population data of 2011 to the State Election Commission for the purpose of reservation and delimition of wards, as the elections would be held on the new census.<\/p>\n
The division bench of the court comprising Justices Amitabh Lala and V K Mathur gave this direction on a couple of petitions demanding holding of the urban local bodies elections before the expiry of the present term in mid-November.<\/p>\n
With this new direction of urban local bodies elections to be held on the 2011 census now the fate of the polls would only be decided when the Census department provides ward-wise data well before October 31 next.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
