The Delhi High Court today granted bail to Rajya Sabha member and expelled Samajwadi Party leader Amar Singh in the cash-for-vote scam on the surety and the personal bonds of Rs 50 lakh each.<\/p>\n
Justice Suresh Kait granted bail after going though the All India Institute of Medical sciences (AIIMS) medical report on his critical health condition.<\/p>\n
Significantly, it is a regular bail which means that Mr Singh for all practical purposes will stay out of jail throughout the hearing of the case in the court.<\/p>\n
He has also been asked to submit his passport to the court and not to try to influence any of the witnesses in the case. The Delhi police submitted the AIIMS report last week. The MP’s condition was reported as critical and in need of constant monitoring.<\/p>\n
The 55-year-old leader was arrested on September 6 for his alleged involvement in an attempt to bribe MPs ahead of the July 2008 Parliament trust vote.<\/p>\n
He was charge sheeted under section 12 of the Prevention of Corruption Act and section 120 B (conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code.<\/p>\n
