\u2018In the wake of an incident in a West Bengal hospital where a woman was allegedly swabbed with carbolic acid instead of antiseptic, the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) has demanded a complete investigation into the incident leading to the reported death of a neo-natal baby and submission of Action Taken Report (ATR) from the state government within 15 days,\u2019 an NCPCR statement said.<\/p>\n
\u00a0A newborn Wednesday died in a sub-divisional hospital in Murshidabad district after the mother was allegedly swabbed with an acidic solution instead of a disinfectant. Officials denied the allegation but ordered a probe into the matter.<\/p>\n
\u00a0Taking cognizance of the incident, the commission has also demanded strict action against Lalbag sub-divisional hospital for its reported \u2018negligence\u2019.<\/p>\n
\u00a0‘The Commission has taken cognizance of this incident as it amounts to violation of the child\u2019s right to life, survival and development and desired that a detailed investigation may be conducted and strict action be taken against Lalbag sub-divisional hospital for their \u2018negligence\u2019 as reported.\u2019<\/p>\n
\u00a0NCPCR has also asked the state government to report the steps taken, especially by the health department, to prevent infant deaths.<\/p>\n
