{"id":15906,"date":"2012-01-03T20:07:44","date_gmt":"2012-01-03T14:37:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.legalindia.in\/news\/?p=15906"},"modified":"2012-01-03T20:07:44","modified_gmt":"2012-01-03T14:37:44","slug":"excise-official-sent-to-police-custody","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.legalindia.com\/news\/excise-official-sent-to-police-custody","title":{"rendered":"Excise official sent to police custody"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A special Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court Tuesday remanded to four days judicial custody a superintendent of Central Excise along with a middleman for allegedly demanding bribe of Rs.60 lakh from a mobile phones importer.<\/p>\n<p>A central excise commissioner is also accused but has not been arrested as he is in hospital for heart treatment.<\/p>\n<p>CBI special judge Talwant Singh remanded the official Lallan Ojha and middleman Hemant Gandhi to custody till Jan 7, saying: \u201cThe other accused are yet to be arrested and these two accused persons are required to be confronted with each other and with evidence collected.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The four days are sufficient for further custodial interrogation, the judge said.<\/p>\n<p>The CBI has requested seven days custodial interrogation of the accused to unearth the conspiracy and confront the accused with other suspects of the case.<\/p>\n<p>The CBI has registered a case against the two accused along with Central Excise Commissioner A.K. Srivastava for allegedly seeking bribe from two mobile phones importers.
