The Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court Tuesday asked the union government to expedite its decision on the issue of anticipatory bails in Uttar Pradesh.<\/p>\n

A bench of Justice Sudhir Agarwal and Justice S.V.S. Rathore asked the union home secretary and the secretary to the president to take a prompt decision on the matter.<\/p>\n

The bench issued the directive while hearing a public interest litigation (PIL) filed by city lawyer Ashok Pandey, who sought the court’s intervention to get anticipatory bail allowed in Uttar Pradesh, as was the case in other states.<\/p>\n

The PIL also said that the state government has already sent a proposal to this effect, after getting it passed by the state legislature, to Governor B.L. Joshi for assent.<\/p>\n

The governor had sent it to the president’s office where it is pending consideration.<\/p>\n
