Doctors at the Noida district hospital went on strike for nearly 14 hours Wednesday after the kin of a deceased man assaulted them Tuesday night.<\/p>\n
According to sources in the hospital, two accident patients – Virendra Kumar (29) and Khushboo (23) – were brought to the hospital at around 10.30 p.m. Tuesday by the staff driver of an ambulance van.<\/p>\n
While Virendra was declared brought dead, the girl Khushboo was found to have a fracture in her hand and was admitted after initial treatment.<\/p>\n
According to the Chief Medical Superintendent (CMS) of Bhim Rao Super Specialty Research Hospital, N.P. Mishra, the deceased Virendra’s body was shifted to the mortuary as his identification was unknown and the girl was not in a position to reveal identification. The hospital staff called up the police.<\/p>\n
However, in the night, at around 1.30 a.m., the deceased’s relatives reached the hospital. By that time, the girl’s family and relatives also reached the hospital.<\/p>\n
The deceased’s relatives accused the hospital doctors of adopting negligence in treating Virendra and for sending him to the mortuary as an unclaimed body.<\/p>\n
The deceased’s kin vandalized the hospital’s property and broke the entrance glass windows and doors. They also reportedly attacked the girl’s relatives, accusing them for the death of Virendra.<\/p>\n
The man’s family claimed that the girl’s side did not approve of her relationship with him and that he had not died in an accident but was murdered.<\/p>\n
The deceased’s kin also assaulted the attending doctor Dr. Arvind Kumar, pharmacist Manoj Kumar and other staff, hospital sources said.<\/p>\n
On information about the ruckus, the police reached the hospital at around 1.50 a.m. and detained some of the relatives.<\/p>\n
The doctors resumed their duties on Wednesday afternoon only after the police promised them of action against the vandals.<\/p>\n
“We want strong action against them so that such incidents do not occur again. We have asked several times for adequate police personnel deployment to prevent such instances but they have hardly bothered,” CMS Mishra said.<\/p>\n
