A Kerala court Tuesday asked former chief minister V.S. Achuthanandan, who complained of sabotage of a probe into an alleged sex racket here in the early 1990s, to appear before it in person.<\/p>\n
The Kozhikode judicial magistrate gave him two weeks to appear before it and posted the case for July 6.
\nThe alleged sex racket involved an ice-cream parlour in Kozhikode as its base and was dubbed by the media as the “ice cream parlour sex case”.<\/p>\n
When Achuthanandan approached the court with a plea not to close the case, the magistrate said courts receive numerous reports from police to close various cases but they go through the merit of each case and only then decide.
\nThe court also asked the Communist Party of India-Marxist veteran the basis of his petition.<\/p>\n
The Kozhikode ice-cream parlour sex case allegedly involved state minister and Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) leader P.K. Kunhalikutty. The Supreme Court cleared him in the case in 2006.
\nIn January last year when Achuthanandan was the chief minister, he directed a fresh inquiry in the case following allegations of lapses by Kunhalikutty to influence the probe.<\/p>\n
On Sunday, media reports said the police team which probed the fresh allegations had submitted its report to the magistrate that there was no evidence to prove that the allegations against the IUML leader.<\/p>\n
The day when these reports came out, Achuthanandan issued a press release that he would approach the court against it.
\nIn May, the Kerala High Court dismissed a petition of Achuthanandan seeking a copy of the investigation report in the case.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
