{"id":21027,"date":"2012-06-21T12:00:56","date_gmt":"2012-06-21T06:30:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.legalindia.in\/news\/?p=21027"},"modified":"2012-06-21T12:00:56","modified_gmt":"2012-06-21T06:30:56","slug":"self-styled-godman-nithyananda-undergo-medical-test","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.legalindia.com\/news\/self-styled-godman-nithyananda-undergo-medical-test","title":{"rendered":"Self-styled godman Nithyananda to undergo medical test"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A <span style=\"color: #333333\"><em><a href=\"https:\/\/timesofindia.indiatimes.com\/topic\/Ramanagaram-court\"><span style=\"color: #333333\">Ramanagaram court<\/span><\/a><\/em><\/span> on Wednesday allowed the CID to conduct <span style=\"color: #333333\"><em><a href=\"https:\/\/timesofindia.indiatimes.com\/topic\/medical\"><span style=\"color: #333333\">medical<\/span><\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/timesofindia.indiatimes.com\/topic\/physical-tests\"><span style=\"color: #333333\">physical tests<\/span><\/a> <\/em><\/span>on self-styled godman Swami Paramahamsa Nithyananda in connection with a <span style=\"color: #333333\"><em><a href=\"https:\/\/timesofindia.indiatimes.com\/topic\/rape\"><span style=\"color: #333333\">rape<\/span><\/a><\/em><\/span> and <span style=\"color: #333333\"><em><a href=\"https:\/\/timesofindia.indiatimes.com\/topic\/sexual-abuse-case\"><span style=\"color: #333333\">sexual abuse case<\/span><\/a><\/em><\/span> lodged against him in 2010.<\/p>\n<p>Chief judicial magistrate Varthur Venkatagiriyappa Pushpavathi passed an order in this regard after the CID filed an application seeking permission to conduct the tests on the godman.<\/p>\n<p>The CID, which had already filed a chargesheet against Nityananda in the case, had not subjected him to a medical and physical examination as he had refused to undergo the tests. With the court granting permission to the CID&#8217;s request, the investigation will come to a close, a CID officer told TOI.<\/p>\n<p>The case of rape and criminal intimidation was originally booked against Nityananda by a devotee with the <span style=\"color: #333333\"><em><a href=\"https:\/\/timesofindia.indiatimes.com\/topic\/Bidadi-police\"><span style=\"color: #333333\">Bidadi police<\/span><\/a><\/em><\/span>, and later transferred to the CID.<\/p>\n<p>The CID&#8217;s fresh move comes in the backdrop of fresh controversies gripping the Bidadi headquarters of the godman. The ashram witnessed widespread violence after some pro-Kannada activists staged a protest at the ashram gate on June 8, after Nityananda had asked a few mediapersons to get out of his press conference the previous day, resulting in fisticuffs.<\/p>\n<p>The state government ordered a probe into the ashram&#8217;s &#8220;shady and illegal&#8221; affairs and threatened to seal it. The government&#8217;s move was challenged by Nityananda.<\/p>\n<p>The godman was arrested later, in connection with the June 7 violence. However, he was released on bail.
