{"id":21081,"date":"2012-06-22T12:21:47","date_gmt":"2012-06-22T06:51:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.legalindia.in\/news\/?p=21081"},"modified":"2012-06-22T12:21:47","modified_gmt":"2012-06-22T06:51:47","slug":"big-blow-mamata-banerjee-singur-deal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.legalindia.com\/news\/big-blow-mamata-banerjee-singur-deal","title":{"rendered":"Big blow to  Mamata Banerjee on Singur Deal"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Calcutta high court division bench on Friday held the <span style=\"color: #000000\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/timesofindia.indiatimes.com\/topic\/Singur-Land-Rehabilitation-and-Development-Act\"><span style=\"color: #000000\">Singur Land Rehabilitation and Development Act<\/span><\/a><\/strong><\/span>, 2011, as unconstitutional and void, which is a major setback to West Bengal&#8217;s <span style=\"color: #000000\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/timesofindia.indiatimes.com\/topic\/Mamata-Banerjee\"><span style=\"color: #000000\">Mamata Banerjee<\/span><\/a><\/strong><\/span> government.<\/p>\n<p>The court favoured the Tata Motors&#8217; appeal against a trial court order which upheld the act and gave the West Bengal government two months to appeal before the Supreme Court.<\/p>\n<p>After coming to power in the state, the Mamata Banerjee government passed the act, which empowered them to return 400 acres of land to <span style=\"color: #000000\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/economictimes.indiatimes.com\/tata-motors-ltd\/stocks\/companyid-12934.cms\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #000000\">Tata Motors<\/span><\/a><\/strong><\/span> at Singur.<\/p>\n<p>In September, 2011, a single judge bench had ruled in favour of the state government after which Tata Motors moved an appeal before the division bench.
