A man, arrested for supplying contraband drugs here, has been sent to jail for 10 years by a Delhi court which also imposed a fine of Rs one lakh on him. The court jailed 31-year-old Vinod Sharma, a Himachal Pradesh native, who was found possessing 3.5 Kg of contraband charas.<\/p>\n
\u00a0“Keeping in view the age, family background and all other attending circumstances, the convict (Sharma) is being awarded the minimum sentence of rigorous imprisonment for a period of 10 years and a fine of Rs one lakh for the offence,” Special NDPS Judge M K Nagpal said.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n \u00a0Sharma was arrested in July, 2010, after the Delhi Police got a tip-off that he would be coming to South Extension area near All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) here to supply drugs. He was apprehended and was found in possession of 3.5 Kg drugs, the police had said.<\/p>\n \u00a0In his statement before the court, Sharma had said he was falsely implicated in the case and was picked up from his relative’s house here. He said he was then taken to the police station where he was forcibly made to sign some blank papers adding nothing was recovered from him. The judge, however, refused to accept his submission and said “it cannot be ignored that the accused is a resident of Himachal Pradesh and he has also not even brought on record any purpose of his visit to Delhi. “No complaint had ever been made after the implication of the accused in this case to any senior police officer or to any other authority agitating his alleged false implication in this case.”<\/em><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" A man, arrested for supplying contraband drugs here, has been sent to jail for 10 years by a Delhi court which also imposed a fine of Rs one lakh on him.
