{"id":21534,"date":"2012-07-06T16:06:48","date_gmt":"2012-07-06T10:36:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.legalindia.in\/news\/?p=21534"},"modified":"2012-07-06T16:06:48","modified_gmt":"2012-07-06T10:36:48","slug":"sc-quashes-cbi-probe-against-mayawati","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.legalindia.com\/news\/sc-quashes-cbi-probe-against-mayawati","title":{"rendered":"SC quashes CBI probe against Mayawati"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <span style=\"color: #003366;text-decoration: underline\"><strong>Supreme Court<\/strong> <\/span>on Friday quashed the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe against Mayawati in a corruption case stemming from the Taj Corridor case and related to assets disproportionate to her income, which brought some good news for her.<\/p>\n<p>Quashing the first information report (FIR), the apex court bench headed by <span style=\"color: #003366;text-decoration: underline\"><strong>Justice P. Sathasivam<\/strong><\/span> described the filing of another FIR against Mayawati in the disproportionate assets case as illegal and without jurisdiction.<\/p>\n<p>Slamming the CBI, the court said that in the registration of another FIR, the investigating agency exceeded its jurisdiction and its action was illegal.<\/p>\n<p>The court said the second FIR against the former Uttar Pradesh chief minister was unwarranted and was filed due to the lack of understanding of the orders of the Supreme Court.<\/p>\n<p>Pronouncing the judgment, Justice Sathasivam said,<span style=\"color: #003366;text-decoration: underline\"><strong> &#8220;Supreme Court being the custodian of the fundamental rights could not have ordered a roving inquiry against the petitioner, Mayawati.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Supreme Court on Friday quashed the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe against Mayawati in a corruption case stemming from the Taj Corridor case and related to assets disproportionate to her income, which brought some good news for her.
