{"id":21541,"date":"2012-07-06T18:11:53","date_gmt":"2012-07-06T12:41:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.legalindia.in\/news\/?p=21541"},"modified":"2012-07-06T18:12:19","modified_gmt":"2012-07-06T12:42:19","slug":"khurshid-govt-not-to-censor-internet","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.legalindia.com\/news\/khurshid-govt-not-to-censor-internet","title":{"rendered":"Khurshid: Govt not to censor internet"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <span style=\"color: #003366;text-decoration: underline\"><strong>Law Minister Mr. Salman Khurshid<\/strong><\/span> today denied any kind of censorship on internet and said adequate provisions are already in place and IT Ministry is also holding consultations with various stakeholders to address concerns on objectionable content.<\/p>\n<p>Addressing a seminar of \u2018<span style=\"color: #003366;text-decoration: underline\"><strong>Editors Guild of India\u2019<\/strong><\/span> here, Mr Khurshid said his colleague and IT Minister Mr Kapil Sibal does not endorse the view of internet censorship in the country and stakeholders have shown willingness to discuss all issues, including how any \u201cviral material\u201d can be removed.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><em>\u201cI can share with you that Kabil Sibal has not endorsed internet censorship. He is already in consultation with the stakeholders. The consultation is going very well, but suddenly people reported that he was trying to put in censorship,\u201d<\/em><\/span> he said.<\/p>\n<p>Explaining the need to monitor and control objectionable material on the internet, Mr Khurshid said the stakeholders have shown willingness to discuss all issues related to this.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><em>\u201cThere is no problem with the internet. Stakeholders have been very willing to work with us and find how any viral material can be removed. I think it is not an insurmountable problem,\u201d<\/em><\/span> the Minister said.<\/p>\n<p>On the issue of regulating social media websites, he said adequate provisions are available in this regard.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #003366;text-decoration: underline\"><em>\u201cThere is already adequate provision available in the law as far as social media is concerned,\u201d<\/em><\/span> he said.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #003366;text-decoration: underline\"><strong>On TRP issue<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The BJP leader and former Information and Broadcasting Minister Mr Ravi Shankar Prasad while addressing the gathering highlighted the need for regulating the agencies monitoring the TRP ratings of news channels.<\/p>\n<p>Alleging that TRP management is done in the <span style=\"color: #003366;text-decoration: underline\"><strong>\u201cmost fraudulent\u201d<\/strong><\/span> manner, Mr Prasad said<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><em> \u201cTRP must be accountable and it must run in a fair, reasonable and accountable manner duly backed by the law.\u201d<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Law Minister Mr. Salman Khurshid today denied any kind of censorship on internet and said adequate provisions are already in place and IT Ministry is also holding consultations with various stakeholders to address concerns on objectionable content.
