{"id":21545,"date":"2012-07-06T19:03:55","date_gmt":"2012-07-06T13:33:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.legalindia.in\/news\/?p=21545"},"modified":"2012-07-06T19:03:55","modified_gmt":"2012-07-06T13:33:55","slug":"ed-to-question-jagan-for-14-days","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.legalindia.com\/news\/ed-to-question-jagan-for-14-days","title":{"rendered":"ED to question Jagan for 14 days"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The CBI court today allowed <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><strong>ED to<\/strong><\/span> interrogate Jagan, as the parliament member from Kadapa is popularly known, in Chanchalguda Central Jail for 14 days in illegal assets case.<\/p>\n<p>The court, which had July 2 reserved its orders on the ED plea, permitted the central agency to question Jagan from July 7 to July 21.<\/p>\n<p>The ED officials will grill Jagan in the presence of his lawyer every day from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.<\/p>\n<p>The CBI court rejected the objections raised by Jagan to the ED petition. In his counter, the MP urged the court to dismiss the petition.<\/p>\n<p>Jagan argued that he is no longer chairman or director of Jagati Publications, the investments into which are under the ED scanner.<\/p>\n<p>Jagati Publications, which publishes Telugu daily<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><strong> &#8220;Sakshi&#8221;,<\/strong> <\/span>reportedly received investments from firms based abroad in return for the favours doled out to them by the then government of Jagan&#8217;s father Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy.<\/p>\n<p>The ED has already booked Jagan for alleged violations of<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><strong> Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) and Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA).<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The ED last month questioned industrialist Nimmagadda Prasad, suspended bureaucrat B.P. Acharya and another bureaucrat K.V. Brahmananda Reddy in Chanchalguda Central Jail here in the same case.<\/p>\n<p>Jagan was arrested by the CBI on May 27.
