{"id":21605,"date":"2012-07-09T15:07:02","date_gmt":"2012-07-09T09:37:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.legalindia.in\/news\/?p=21605"},"modified":"2012-07-09T15:07:17","modified_gmt":"2012-07-09T09:37:17","slug":"sc-seeks-govts-reply-on-killings-by-bsf","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.legalindia.com\/news\/sc-seeks-govts-reply-on-killings-by-bsf","title":{"rendered":"SC seeks govt&#8217;s reply on &#8216;killings&#8217; by BSF"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <span style=\"color: #800000;text-decoration: underline\"><strong>Supreme Court<\/strong><\/span>(SC) today sought the Centre\u2019s reply on a plea for probe into the alleged <span style=\"color: #800000;text-decoration: underline\"><strong>torture and extra-judicial killings<\/strong><\/span> by the <span style=\"color: #800000;text-decoration: underline\"><strong>Border Security Force(BSF<\/strong><\/span>) personnel in the border area of West Bengal.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0A bench of <span style=\"color: #800000;text-decoration: underline\"><strong>justices B S Chauhan and Swatanter Kumar<\/strong> <\/span>asked the government to file its response within three weeks.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0The court\u2019s order came on an application by Banglar Manabadhikar Suraksha Mancha, a Kolkata-based NGO, which alleged that there are more than 200 cases where the BSF personnel indulged in extra-judicial killings or torture in the border area and those cases were never probed by the state police.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u201c<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><em>The present case will show the procedure followed by the West Bengal Police makes a mockery of the rule of law.
