{"id":21630,"date":"2012-07-10T11:26:48","date_gmt":"2012-07-10T05:56:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.legalindia.in\/news\/?p=21630"},"modified":"2012-07-10T11:26:48","modified_gmt":"2012-07-10T05:56:48","slug":"mahesh-bhatt-camp-to-deposit-rs-10-lakh","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.legalindia.com\/news\/mahesh-bhatt-camp-to-deposit-rs-10-lakh","title":{"rendered":"Mahesh Bhatt camp to deposit Rs 10 lakh"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In May this year, Mumbai-based writer <span style=\"color: #800000;text-decoration: underline\"><strong>Kapil Chopra<\/strong><\/span> filed a case of plagiarism against the makers of Jannat 2, alleging the Mahesh\u00a0Bhatt camp\u00a0had stolen his script to make their film. Chopra maintained in court that he had registered his screenplay with the <span style=\"color: #800000;text-decoration: underline\"><strong>Film Writers Association<\/strong> <\/span>way back in 2007.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0In a court hearing last evening, it came to light that Chopra had met <span style=\"color: #800000;text-decoration: underline\"><strong>Jannat 2&#8217;s<\/strong> <\/span>director <span style=\"color: #800000;text-decoration: underline\"><strong>Kunal Deshmukh<\/strong><\/span> a couple of times when he narrated his story, and even left a bound copy of the script with the director. There was no response.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0Later, when Chopra saw the promos of the film, he thought his screenplay had been copied to the T, including the plot, dialogues and characters. He met Deshmukh and\u00a0\u00a0Mahesh Bhatt camp but both rubbished his claims after which, he filed a case against the film&#8217;s makers.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0After hearing Chopra&#8217;s complaint, the <span style=\"color: #800000;text-decoration: underline\"><strong>Bombay High Court<\/strong><\/span> has asked the\u00a0Mahesh Bhatt camp to deposit Rs 10 lakh, the amount being for the conditional order that they can release the satellite rights of Jannat 2.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0Kapil maintains that Jannat 2 is his work. To which <span style=\"color: #800000;text-decoration: underline\"><strong>Mahesh Bhatt<\/strong><\/span> shot back,<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><em> &#8220;Kapil is in delusion. It is Shagufta Rafique who has written the script. The Court will decide later if Kapil&#8217;s complaint holds any merit,&#8221;<\/em> <\/span>adding,<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><em> &#8220;The industry needs to be saved from people like Kapil who think that every work of significance is theirs.&#8221;<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><em>\u00a0Shagufta simply said, &#8220;Losers always exist.
