{"id":21696,"date":"2012-07-12T17:47:22","date_gmt":"2012-07-12T12:17:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.legalindia.in\/news\/?p=21696"},"modified":"2012-07-12T17:47:22","modified_gmt":"2012-07-12T12:17:22","slug":"kalmadi-sought-court-permission-for-attending-2012-olympics","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.legalindia.com\/news\/kalmadi-sought-court-permission-for-attending-2012-olympics","title":{"rendered":"Kalmadi sought court permission for attending 2012 Olympics"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The main culprit of CWG scam <span style=\"color: #800000;text-decoration: underline\"><strong>Suresh Kalmadi<\/strong><\/span> today sought a Delhi court&#8217;s permission to attend the <span style=\"color: #800000;text-decoration: underline\"><strong>2012 Olympics<\/strong><\/span> in London.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0In his plea to <span style=\"color: #800000;text-decoration: underline\"><strong>Special CBI Judge Talwant Singh<\/strong><\/span>, Kalmadi said he is a member of <span style=\"color: #800000;text-decoration: underline\"><strong>International Association of Athletics Federation (IAAF)<\/strong><\/span> Council and sought permission to go to the United Kingdom for the games from July 26 to August 13.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0&#8220;<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><em>Applicant (Kalmadi), in his capacity, as a member of the IAAF Council and as president of Asian Athletics Association (AAA), is required to attend certain meetings, conferences and matters of the IAAF during the London 2012 Olympics from July 26 to August 13,&#8221;<\/em><\/span> Kalmadi said in his application.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0The court, which is hearing arguments on framing of charges against the accused, listed the plea for tomorrow.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0The Lok Sabha MP and 10 others have been charge-sheeted by the CBI under various provisions of the IPC and the Prevention of Corruption Act for allegedly &#8220;illegally&#8221; awarding contract to install Timing, Scoring and Results (TSR) system for the 2010 Commonwealth Games to Swiss Timing, causing a loss of over Rs 90 crore to the exchequer.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0Kalmadi also placed on record the invitation from IAAF Council and the general programme schedule of the Olympics and details of travel ticket sent to him by the association&#8217;s General Secretary Essar Gabriel.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">&#8220;Therefore, the applicant is hereby seeking permission of this court to travel abroad for this purpose<\/span><\/em>,&#8221;
