{"id":21719,"date":"2012-07-13T15:33:15","date_gmt":"2012-07-13T10:03:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.legalindia.in\/news\/?p=21719"},"modified":"2012-07-13T15:33:15","modified_gmt":"2012-07-13T10:03:15","slug":"suresh-kalmadi-to-visit-london-for-olympics","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.legalindia.com\/news\/suresh-kalmadi-to-visit-london-for-olympics","title":{"rendered":"Suresh Kalmadi to visit London for Olympics"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The suspended chairman of <span style=\"color: #800000;text-decoration: underline\"><strong>Commonwealth Games <\/strong><\/span>(CWG) organising committee (OC), <span style=\"color: #800000;text-decoration: underline\"><strong>Suresh Kalmandi<\/strong><\/span>, was on Friday granted permission by a Delhi court to visit London to attend 2012 Olympic Games.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #800000;text-decoration: underline\"><strong>Special CBI judge Talwant Singh<\/strong><\/span> allowed Suresh Kalmadi\u2019s plea to visit London from July 26 to August 13, while ordering him to furnish a bond of Rs 10 lakh and a surety of the same amount.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0The sacked Congress MP, who is the main accused in the CWG scam, had on Thursday sought a special Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court&#8217;s permission to attend the London Olympics, being held from July 26 to August 13.<\/p>\n<p>The court made it clear that Suresh Kalmadi is allowed to visit London for the purpose of the 2012 Olympics only.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u201cAccused no 1 (Kalmadi) is a member of International Association of Athletics Federation (IAAF) Council and President of Asian Athletics Association (AAA) and arguments on charge on his behalf are already over. The arguments on charge of the other accused in the case are going on and it will take time in concluding. Accordingly, the application of Kalmadi is allowed,\u201d<\/span><\/em> the judge said.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0The court also noted that no adjournment would be sought on behalf of Kalmadi and his counsel will remain present in the proceedings during his absence.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0Seeking the court\u2019s permission to visit the United Kingdom for the games from July 26 to August 13, Kalmadi had also placed on record the invitation from IAAF Council and the general programme schedule of the Olympics and details of the ticket sent to him by the association\u2019s General Secretary Essar Gabriel.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0The Lok Sabha MP and 10 others have been charge-sheeted by the CBI under various provisions of the IPC and Prevention of Corruption Act for allegedly \u201cillegally\u201d awarding contract to install Timing, Scoring and Results (TSR) system for the 2010 Commonwealth Games to Swiss Timing, causing a loss of over Rs 90 crore to the exchequer.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The suspended chairman of Commonwealth Games (CWG) organising committee (OC), Suresh Kalmandi, was on Friday granted permission by a Delhi court to visit London to attend 2012 Olympic Games.
