{"id":21746,"date":"2012-07-13T18:47:18","date_gmt":"2012-07-13T13:17:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.legalindia.in\/news\/?p=21746"},"modified":"2012-07-13T18:47:19","modified_gmt":"2012-07-13T13:17:19","slug":"women-commission-seeks-report-on-panchayat-diktats","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.legalindia.com\/news\/women-commission-seeks-report-on-panchayat-diktats","title":{"rendered":"Women Commission seeks report on panchayat diktats"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The<span style=\"color: #800000;text-decoration: underline\"><strong> Uttar Pradesh State Women Commission<\/strong> <\/span>has sought a report from <span style=\"color: #800000;text-decoration: underline\"><strong>Baghpat district<\/strong> <\/span>administration on <span style=\"color: #800000;text-decoration: underline\"><strong>panchayat \u00a0diktats<\/strong><\/span> issued by a village panchayat banning love marriages and not allowing women below 40 years to go to market alone.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u201c<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><em>The Commission has sought an immediate report from Baghpat district magistrate in this connection,\u201d<\/em> <\/span>official sources said.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0The panchayat at Asara village in Bagpat district of Uttar Pradesh has reportedly issued their diktat of \u00a0banning <span style=\"color: #800000;text-decoration: underline\"><strong>\u00a0love marriages, barred women below 40 years of age from going out for shopping and girls from using mobile phones on the streets.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0The panchayat diktat also involve that when <span style=\"color: #800000;text-decoration: underline\"><strong>women leave their homes, their heads must be covered<\/strong><\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0The panchayat diktats were issued during a meeting of the panchayat held on July 11.<\/p>\n<p>The panchayat diktat banned love marriages and said those doing so would not be allowed to live in the village.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<span style=\"color: #800000;text-decoration: underline\"><strong>Superintendent of Police Baghpat V.K.
