{"id":21882,"date":"2012-07-19T15:58:49","date_gmt":"2012-07-19T10:28:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.legalindia.in\/news\/?p=21882"},"modified":"2012-07-19T15:58:49","modified_gmt":"2012-07-19T10:28:49","slug":"nitish-kumar-amendment-in-bihar-jail-manual-after-87-years","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.legalindia.com\/news\/nitish-kumar-amendment-in-bihar-jail-manual-after-87-years","title":{"rendered":"Nitish Kumar: Amendment in Bihar Jail manual after 87 years"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #800000;text-decoration: underline\"><strong>Bihar\u2019s chief minister Nitish Kumar<\/strong><\/span> said that <span style=\"color: #800000;text-decoration: underline\"><strong>Bihar Jail Manual<\/strong><\/span> would be amended after 87 years to categorise the inmates as per their offence and educational qualification The jail manual was last modified in 1925.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0<span style=\"color: #800000;text-decoration: underline\"><strong>Young offenders aged between 18 and 21<\/strong><\/span> will be seperately housed from notorious criminals so that the former do not mingle with hardened criminals and can be reformed as part of the rehabilitation programmme for prisoners, home department sources said.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0The jail superintendents were also directed to take photographs of all the inmates, their finger prints and have their voice recorded for preparing a complete data base of the prisoners.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0Announcing that all the 54 jails across the state would be computerised, Nitish\u00a0Kumar who held a review meeting of the state home (Prison) department yesterday, asked the jail administration to install modern gadgets through which prisoners could get information about their court appearance dates simply by touching a screen.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0The district magistrates were asked to hold an interactive meeting <span style=\"color: #800000;text-decoration: underline\"><strong>&#8216;Bandi Darbar<\/strong><\/span>&#8216;every two months for redressing their grievances.
