{"id":21918,"date":"2012-07-20T15:00:08","date_gmt":"2012-07-20T09:30:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.legalindia.in\/news\/?p=21918"},"modified":"2012-07-20T15:00:08","modified_gmt":"2012-07-20T09:30:08","slug":"former-army-chief-gen-v-k-singh-4-others-get-bail-in-defamation-case","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.legalindia.com\/news\/former-army-chief-gen-v-k-singh-4-others-get-bail-in-defamation-case","title":{"rendered":"Former Army chief Gen V K Singh, 4 others get bail in defamation case"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #800000;text-decoration: underline\"><strong>Former-Army chief VK Singh<\/strong><\/span> and four top army officers, including vice chief of Army staff, on Monday appeared before a <span style=\"color: #800000;text-decoration: underline\"><strong>Delhi court<\/strong> <\/span>following summons against them in a <span style=\"color: #800000;text-decoration: underline\"><strong>criminal defamation case<\/strong><\/span> and were granted bail.<\/p>\n<p>Former Army chief Gen V K Singh, Vice Chief of Army Staff S K Singh, Lt Gen B S Thakur (Director General of Military Intelligence), Major General S L Narshiman (Additional Director General of Public Information) and Lt Col Hitten Sawhney appeared before the court in the case filed by Lt Gen (retd) Tejinder Singh.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0All the five accused were granted bail by <span style=\"color: #800000;text-decoration: underline\"><strong>Metropolitan Magistrate Jay Thareja<\/strong><\/span> on a personal bond of Rs 20,000 each.\u00a0In his complaint, Tejinder Singh has accused them of misusing their official position, power and authority to level false charges against him.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0Thareja had on June eight directed them to appear before him, saying they have been <span style=\"color: #800000;text-decoration: underline\"><strong>&#8220;summoned as accused in the present matter&#8221;.<\/strong><\/span>\u00a0Tejinder Singh had filed the complaint alleging that he was defamed by the Army through its press release issued on March 5, which accused him of offering a bribe of Rs 14 crore to the Former-Army chief to clear a deal of 600 trucks, a charge refuted by him.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Former-Army chief VK Singh and four top army officers, including vice chief of Army staff, on Monday appeared before a Delhi court following summons against them in a criminal defamation case and were granted bail.
