{"id":21926,"date":"2012-07-20T18:15:56","date_gmt":"2012-07-20T12:45:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.legalindia.in\/news\/?p=21926"},"modified":"2012-07-20T18:16:09","modified_gmt":"2012-07-20T12:46:09","slug":"high-powered-committee-on-casualties-of-amarnath-pilgrims","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.legalindia.com\/news\/high-powered-committee-on-casualties-of-amarnath-pilgrims","title":{"rendered":"High powered committee on casualties of Amarnath pilgrims"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <span style=\"color: #800000;text-decoration: underline\"><strong>Supreme Court<\/strong><\/span> has formed a <span style=\"color: #800000;text-decoration: underline\"><strong>hi<\/strong><\/span><span style=\"color: #800000;text-decoration: underline\"><strong><span style=\"color: #800000;text-decoration: underline\">gh-<\/span>powered committee<\/strong><\/span> to recommend measures to prevent the growing number of casualties of Amarnath pilgrims saying that it has become a permanent problem and a regular affair.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0A bench of<span style=\"color: #800000;text-decoration: underline\"><strong> justices B S Chauhan and Swatanter Kumar<\/strong><\/span> formed the committee comprising senior officials of the Centre, Jammu and Kashmir government, security forces and Amarnath Shrine Board.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0It directed the committee to visit the shrine and give the report to Jammu and Kashmir Governor who is also the chairman of<span style=\"color: #800000;text-decoration: underline\"><strong> Shri Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB)<\/strong><\/span>, responsible for holding the annual Amarnath pilgrimage.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0The recommendation made by the committee will then be submitted to the apex court by August 10 and the case will be taken up for further hearing on August 13.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0The court passed the order after taking suo motu note of media reports of pilgrims\u2019 deaths allegedly due to lack of proper facilities and medical care for the pilgrims.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u201cIt has become a regular affair and permanent problem. So we want a committee of responsible officers to look into it. Lakhs of people go there and there are innumerable deaths.
