{"id":22056,"date":"2012-07-26T15:26:15","date_gmt":"2012-07-26T09:56:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.legalindia.in\/news\/?p=22056"},"modified":"2012-07-26T15:26:15","modified_gmt":"2012-07-26T09:56:15","slug":"consumer-court-bses-to-pay-for-denying-power-connection","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.legalindia.com\/news\/consumer-court-bses-to-pay-for-denying-power-connection","title":{"rendered":"Consumer Court: BSES to pay for denying power connection"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Power distribution company <span style=\"color: #800000;text-decoration: underline\"><strong>BSES<\/strong><\/span> has been ordered by a consumer forum in Delhi to pay <span style=\"color: #800000;text-decoration: underline\"><strong>Rs 6,000<\/strong><\/span> to one of its customers as compensation for arbitrarily denying him a separate and new electricity connection.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0The <span style=\"color: #800000;text-decoration: underline\"><strong>South West District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum<\/strong><\/span> asked BSES to pay the compensation to city resident Jaipal Singh, holding the firm guilty of<span style=\"color: #800000;text-decoration: underline\"><strong> &#8220;misusing its dominant position.&#8221;<\/strong><\/span>The forum termed as <span style=\"color: #800000;text-decoration: underline\"><strong>&#8220;vague&#8221;<\/strong><\/span> the firm&#8217;s reason for denying the consumer a new power connection that commercial formalities were not completed by him.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><em>&#8220;We observe that complainant (Singh) had submitted the application in the prescribed format for installation of new connection along with the fees of Rs 3,600 and had also (attached) indemnity bond, ID card and copy of khatuani.
