{"id":22286,"date":"2012-08-03T19:12:32","date_gmt":"2012-08-03T13:42:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.legalindia.in\/news\/?p=22286"},"modified":"2012-08-03T19:12:32","modified_gmt":"2012-08-03T13:42:32","slug":"sc-pulls-up-ncws-apathy-to-virandawan-widows","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.legalindia.com\/news\/sc-pulls-up-ncws-apathy-to-virandawan-widows","title":{"rendered":"SC pulls up NCW&#8217;s apathy to Virandawan widows"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <span style=\"color: #800000; text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Supreme court<\/strong> <\/span>today pulled up the <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>National Commission for Women<\/strong> <\/span>and its Uttar Pradesh counterpart for their apathy to the pitiable condition of Virandavan widows and asked the state government to provide adequate food and hygienic living environment for them.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0A bench of justices<span style=\"color: #800000; text-decoration: underline;\"><strong> D K Jain and Madan B Lokur<\/strong><\/span> directed the two commissions to file their affidavits within two weeks explaining as to what they have done or propose to do for the widows, living in <span style=\"color: #800000; text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>&#8220;pathetic&#8221;<\/strong><\/span> condition in the holy city.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0The bench also directed the state government to provide medical facilities for the widows.<\/p>\n<p>It directed the Vrindavan chief medical officer to ensure that a team of doctors visits the widows&#8217; shelter at least twice a week.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0Recording the statement of state government&#8217;s counsel, the bench said a committee of <span style=\"color: #800000; text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>State Probationary Officer and Social Welfare Officer<\/strong> <\/span>would ensure that proper food and drinking water are supplied to the widows&#8217; home.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0The court passed the order on pleas seeking its direction to the Centre and the state government to provide shelter and other necessary facilities to the widows in the city who have been abandoned by their family members.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0The court had earlier issued notices on the petitions highlighting the plight of widows who have been living in Vrindavan and begging at temples and then huddling together in hovels, which they call their homes.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0The court had on May 9 appointed a seven-member panel to collect data on their socio-economic conditions.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0The committee headed by chairman of <span style=\"color: #800000; text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Mathura District Legal Services Authority<\/strong><\/span> had earlier submitted its report saying the widows are &#8220;highly vulnerable&#8221; groups and are living in &#8220;pathetic&#8221; conditions.<\/p>\n<p>Source: PTI<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Supreme court today pulled up the National Commission for Women and its Uttar Pradesh counterpart for their apathy to the pitiable condition of Virandavan widows and asked the state government to provide adequate food and hygienic living environment for them. \u00a0A bench of justices D K Jain and Madan B Lokur directed the two [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":21,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"jetpack_post_was_ever_published":false,"_jetpack_newsletter_access":"","_jetpack_dont_email_post_to_subs":false,"_jetpack_newsletter_tier_id":0,"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paywalled_content":false,"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paid_content":false,"footnotes":"","jetpack_publicize_message":"","jetpack_publicize_feature_enabled":true,"jetpack_social_post_already_shared":false,"jetpack_social_options":{"image_generator_settings":{"template":"highway","default_image_id":0,"font":"","enabled":false},"version":2}},"categories":[1],"tags":[11526,2159,2928,11525,1788],"class_list":["post-22286","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-top-law-news","tag-condition-of-virandawan-widows","tag-national-commission-for-women","tag-ncw","tag-virandawan-widows","tag-widows"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.3 - https:\/\/yoast.com\/product\/yoast-seo-wordpress\/ -->\n<title>SC pulls up NCW&#039;s apathy to Virandawan widows - Legal News India - Supreme Court &amp; High Court Updates<\/title>\n<meta name=\"description\" content=\"The Supreme court today pulled up the National Commission for Women and its Uttar Pradesh counterpart for their apathy to the pitiable condition of - Get the latest legal news from the Supreme Court, High Courts, and government.
