{"id":22356,"date":"2012-08-06T14:00:16","date_gmt":"2012-08-06T08:30:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.legalindia.in\/news\/?p=22356"},"modified":"2012-08-06T14:00:16","modified_gmt":"2012-08-06T08:30:16","slug":"goa-govt-contemplates-cancelling-40-mining-leases","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.legalindia.com\/news\/goa-govt-contemplates-cancelling-40-mining-leases","title":{"rendered":"Goa govt contemplates cancelling 40 mining leases"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <span style=\"color: #800000; text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Goa Government<\/strong><\/span> is planning to cancel <span style=\"color: #800000; text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>40 mining leases<\/strong><\/span> in the State that were granted during the erstwhile Congress-led regime.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #800000; text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar<\/strong><\/span> told the Legislative Assembly today that the State Government has already moved a file for legal advice on issuing notice to owners of 40 mining leases, whose delay in applying for conversion of their \u2018concession\u2019 into \u2018lease\u2019 was condoned by the Congress Government.<\/p>\n<p>The former Government had condoned the delay although<span style=\"color: #800000; text-decoration: underline;\"><strong> \u201cthey were not allowed to do so,\u201d<\/strong> <\/span>Parrikar said.<\/p>\n<p>The delay in filing of the<span style=\"color: #800000; text-decoration: underline;\"><strong> \u2018J form\u2019<\/strong><\/span> under the <span style=\"color: #800000; text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Goa, Daman and Diu Mining Concession Act, 1987<\/strong><\/span>, was condoned by the previous Congress-led governments.<\/p>\n<p>The deadline for filing the said form was November 22, 1988, but some were filed as late as 2005.<\/p>\n<p>The \u2018J\u2019 form is necessary for conversion of old mining concessions granted during Portuguese rule into formal leases.<\/p>\n<p>Out of 40 mining leases, only 8-10 are actually operational, Parrikar said, adding that almost all the leases in the State were operating under deemed provision.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>\u201cWe will process their applications for renewal.
