{"id":22362,"date":"2012-08-06T14:44:36","date_gmt":"2012-08-06T09:14:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.legalindia.in\/news\/?p=22362"},"modified":"2012-08-06T14:45:59","modified_gmt":"2012-08-06T09:15:59","slug":"lawyers-strike-affects-district-court-proceedings","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.legalindia.com\/news\/lawyers-strike-affects-district-court-proceedings","title":{"rendered":"Lawyers strike affects district court proceedings"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The proceedings in six district courts in the city were today affected by the <span style=\"color: #800000; text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>day-long strike<\/strong><\/span> called by lawyers to protest against the hike in <span style=\"color: #800000; text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>court fees<\/strong><\/span> in Delhi.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0The lawyers abstained from work in all the six district courts of <span style=\"color: #800000; text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Patiala House, Tis Hazari, Karkardooma, Rohini, Saket and Dwarka<\/strong><\/span>, saying the Delhi government has notified the <span style=\"color: #800000; text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Court Fee (Amendment) Act<\/strong> <\/span>due to which the common people will have to suffer as court fee has been increased by ten times.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0The Delhi government had recently decided to increase the court fees ten-fold to shore up its coffers by around Rs 450 crore annually.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0Rajiv Jai, Chairman of the Co-ordination Council of All Bar Associations and President of New Delhi Bar Association, said that the strike is successful as the lawyers are not appearing in the court proceedings.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>\u00a0&#8220;We (lawyers) are observing a day-long strike in all the six district courts here. The strike is successful today and we will start hunger strike from tomorrow onwards at Patiala House Court Complex so that the notification for the increase in the court fees may be rolled back,&#8221;<\/em><\/span> he said. Nitin Ahlawat, secretary of <span style=\"color: #800000; text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Delhi Bar Association<\/strong><\/span>, said no work was being done at Tis Hazari courts due to the strike.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0Similarly, president of the <span style=\"color: #800000; text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Shahdara Bar Association<\/strong><\/span> R K Jain said that the strike is successful at Karkardooma courts. The bar leaders of Saket and Dwarka district courts also said that lawyers are not appearing in any case.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0The lawyers said that the government should roll back its decision to hike the court fee as it would increase the burden on common litigants.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0The strike also affected the hearing in the <span style=\"color: #800000; text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>2G spectrum allocation scam case<\/strong> <\/span>at Patiala House court and the proceeding was adjourned due to the boycott of work by the lawyers.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0The government has decided to hike the court fee and <span style=\"color: #800000;
