{"id":22432,"date":"2012-08-08T18:54:21","date_gmt":"2012-08-08T13:24:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.legalindia.in\/news\/?p=22432"},"modified":"2012-08-08T18:54:21","modified_gmt":"2012-08-08T13:24:21","slug":"no-amnesty-scheme-to-check-black-money-govt","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.legalindia.com\/news\/no-amnesty-scheme-to-check-black-money-govt","title":{"rendered":"No amnesty scheme to check black money: Govt"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On the issue of <span style=\"color: #800000; text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>black money<\/strong> <\/span>the government today has said that the <span style=\"color: #800000; text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Income Tax Department<\/strong><\/span> has not recommended<span style=\"color: #800000; text-decoration: underline;\"><strong> \u2018amnesty scheme\u2019<\/strong> <\/span>to deal with the issue of black money.<\/p>\n<p>On the question of, if the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has recommended \u201camnesty scheme\u201d on black money on the lines of the US the Minister of State for Finance S S Palanimanickam replied<span style=\"color: #800000; text-decoration: underline;\"><strong> \u201cNo\u201d.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The government had set up a committee under the <span style=\"color: #800000; text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>CBDT Chairman<\/strong> <\/span>to examine ways to strengthen laws to curb the generation of black money in the country, its illegal transfer abroad and its recovery. The panel submitted its report to the government in March 2012.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0CBDT is the authority under the <span style=\"color: #800000; text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Finance Ministry<\/strong><\/span> which is responsible for collection of direct taxes in the country.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0The minister informed the Lok Sabha that there is <span style=\"color: #800000; text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>\u201cno verifiable information\u201d<\/strong><\/span> as to estimate black money brought back to the country till date.Also, there is no verifiable information to estimate money deposited in foreign accounts by Indian nationals, \u201cwhich is exclusive of their legitimate foreign deposits\u201d, he added.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0However, as per the information released by the <span style=\"color: #800000; text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Swiss National Bank<\/strong><\/span>, the liability of Swiss banks towards Indians as on December 31, 2011, was CHF 2.183 billion (USD 2.245 billion), Palanimanickam said.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0Facing flak from various quarters for not doing enough to deal with the menace of black money, the government has adopted a multi-pronged strategy to address the problem.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0It has instituted three studies to estimate the quantum of black money both inside and outside the country.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On the issue of black money the government today has said that the Income Tax Department has not recommended \u2018amnesty scheme\u2019 to deal with the issue of black money.
