A local court here awarded seven years of rigorous imprisonment to a man for raping his estranged wife. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 7,000 on him. The sentence was awarded yesterday by Additional District and Session Judge Sunita Bali to Naval Singh, prosecution said today. The court also awarded five years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 4,000 each to four other persons identified as Shobharam, Subhash Chandra, Jairam and Amar Singh for helping the prime accused in committing the act. All the convicted persons belong to village Dabatia in Khandwa district. The victim belongs to village Nandrakhurd. Her husband Naval had divorced her about seven months back. However, lNaval and his associates later kidnapped the woman from her village and raped her. Based on the victim’s complaint, Khaknar police station registered a case against them and submitted in the court for trial, following which, they were awarded sentence under relevant sections of the IPC.<\/p>\n
