With the new academic session beginning today, the district administration ordered registration of criminal case against students caught ragging their juniors .<\/p>\n
“In order to control ragging, all the institutions should establish an anti-ragging cell and a help line number should be publicised at all common places on the campus,” ADM Anup Srivatsava, said during a meeting of the anti-ragging committee of district administration today.<\/p>\n
He also ordered the registration of criminal case against students caught ragging their juniors.<\/p>\n
He added, “Also the ragging rules should be uploaded on the institution’s websites and detailed discussions should be conducted with students regarding this.”<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, IIT Kanpur has asked its students to submit an affidavit stating that they will not indulge in ragging.<\/p>\n
“With the beginning of every new session the students are supposed to submit an affidavit stating that the if the students is caught ragging or harassing any fresher in any form, they will be expelled from the college,” Registrar of IIT Kanpur, R K Sachan told PTI.<\/p>\n
Sachan claimed that in the last few years no incident of ragging has came into light in the IIT.<\/p>\n
He said that apart from the constitution of a separate anti-ragging team, senior students are also being deployed along with the wardens to conduct surprise visits in the hostel rooms during night.<\/p>\n
Similarly, administrations of other engineering and management colleges, including those of Chatrapati Shahu Ji Maharaj University have implemented various measures to prevent ragging.<\/p>\n
Dr Navneet Kumar, Principal, Ganesh Shankar Vidyarthi Medical College college has also warned the students that if anybody is caught ragging an FIR will be lodged and expulsion cannot be ruled out.<\/p>\n
