A Delhi court today dismissed the bail plea of former Haryana Minister Gopal Kanda’s aide Aruna Chaddha, an accused in the Geetika Sharma suicide case.<\/p>\n
District and Additional Sessions Judge S K Sarvaria refused to grant bail to Chaddha.<\/p>\n
Chaddha had sought bail on the ground that she has a seven-year-old daughter and old parents to look after.<\/p>\n
Senior advocate Ramesh Gupta, appearing for Chaddha, argued that Geetika had committed suicide because her parents were unhappy with her.<\/p>\n
He also said even the post-mortem report does not reveal anything incriminating against Chaddha or Kanda.<\/p>\n
Gupta said if they (Chaddha and Kanda) were pressurising Geetika, why did her family allow her to re-join MDLR.<\/p>\n
He also showed to the court the photographs of Geetika along with Chaddha attending a party 15 days before she committed suicide in her house on August 4.<\/p>\n
Chaddha’s bail plea was vehemently opposed by the Delhi police which said she does not deserve bail as she had lied on many points during her interrogation.<\/p>\n
Public Prosecutor Rajiv Mohan said Chaddha, during her interrogation, did not disclose sending to Geetika forged letters, which said an extradition proceeding has been initiated against her in Dubai.<\/p>\n
He also said Chaddha had lied about her date of joining MDLR.<\/p>\n
“When her conduct during interrogation has been such, how can she be granted bail?,” argued Gupta.<\/p>\n
The public prosecutor said both of Geetika’s suicide notes clearly mentioned that Chaddha and Kanda were responsible for her extreme step.<\/p>\n
He added Chaddha might tamper with the evidence like Kanda, who destroyed his mobile phones with which he used to talk to Geetika.<\/p>\n
He said Chaddha had called up Geetika’s mother last on August 3 telling her that Geetika should sign some papers and that whatever Kanda had said about her character was right.<\/p>\n
The prosecutor also said Kanda used to disguise himself to shadow Geetika and the police was probing it.<\/p>\n
He added Geetika’s suicide was a case of “continuous annoyance or continuous irritation” as Kanda had not spared Geetika even the freedom to meet her friends freely.<\/p>\n
He argued the charge sheet in the case is yet to be filed and the police is yet to explore all the circumstances leading to the suicide. All the circumstances that have been gathered till date point at complicity of both the accused, he added.<\/p>\n
Earlier in the day, when the judge reserved his order on Chaddha’s bail plea, she went near judge’s dais with her daughter and pleaded that she be released on bail as she has a minor daughter and old parents to look after.<\/p>\n
Geetika’s family present in the courtroom objected to her move saying it amounts to emotionally influencing the judge.<\/p>\n
Chaddha was arrested on August 8 and is currently in judicial custody. Kanda had surrendered on August 18 and he too is in judicial custody.<\/p>\n
In the August 4 suicide note found at her residence, 23-year-old Geetika had said she was ending her life due to “harassment” by Kanda and his now-defunct airlines MDLR’s official Chaddha.<\/p>\n
Both Kanda and Chaddha have been accused of abetting Geetika’s suicide.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
