Sixty-five thousand police personnel, mainly constables and havildars in Bihar Monday began the first of their five-phased protest against the government’s alleged apathy to grant them various allowances.<\/p>\n
All the police constables and havildars (sergeants) protested by wearing black badges during their duty hours in the first phase to draw the attention of the state government.<\/p>\n
“Police officials deployed at Chief Minister Nitish Kuimar’s official residence were seen wearing black badges to mark their protest,” an Inspector General-rank police officer said.<\/p>\n
The call for the protest has been given by the Bihar Policemen’s Association to demand various allowances.<\/p>\n
“In the second phase, police personnel will stage a dharna (sit-down strike) followed by a hunger strike,” association leader Jitendra Kumar Singh said.<\/p>\n
The association has threatened that all constables and havildars will go on mass leave in October in the fifth phase of their protest.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
