How can a central government\u2019s senior law officer appear for a lawyers\u2019s body to oppose a legislation, the city government Monday asked in the Delhi High Court which was hearing a plea against the recent hike in court fees.<\/p>\n
The government opposed the appearance of Additional Solicitor General (ASG) A.S. Chandhiok for Delhi High Court Bar Association (DHCBA) opposing the fee hike.<\/p>\n
\u201cFirst of all, the additional solicitor general should clarify this as to how he can oppose the act passed by Delhi assembly and moreover, this (act) has been approved by the president of India,\u201d said counsel for state government Najmi Waziri.<\/p>\n
Najmi told a division bench headed by Justice A.K. Sikri that the ASG was also appointed by the president.<\/p>\n
Chandhiok is also the president of the DHCBA.<\/p>\n
The court ordered that the matter be listed before some other bench Sep 13.<\/p>\n
It stayed the government\u2019s decision to enforce the Court Fee (Delhi Amendment) Act, 2012 allowing it to effect a 10-fold hike in court fees.<\/p>\n
The bench took note of the letter written by Delhi government assuring to resolve the issue.<\/p>\n
