The Delhi High Court Tuesday ordered that from Sep 15 traffic movement on the bus rapid transit (BRT) corridor would revert to the original flow system with one road lane reserved for buses and curbs on cars using the bus lane.<\/p>\n
A division bench of Justice Pradeep Nandrajog and Justice Manmohan Singh modified the court\u2019s earlier order that had allowed all vehicles to use the reserved bus lane.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe direct that till the writ petition is decided, the traffic flow would revert to its movement\/flow as per BRT corridor traffic flow system, meaning thereby, the traffic which was flowing before its flow was altered under interim orders passed and to give effect to the same, restoring status quo ante.\u201d<\/p>\n
The court was hearing a petition filed by NGO Nyay Bhoomi for smooth traffic movement on the 5.7 km BRT corridor between Ambedkar Nagar and Moolchand in south Delhi and government permission to allow cars to ply in the road lane reserved for buses.<\/p>\n
The court asked transport department to implement the order from Sep 15, after senior advocate K.T.S. Tulsi assured the court that \u201cnecessary signage(s) would be put in place and wide publicity would be given for the revised traffic flow management and the traffic marshals would be brought back as also adequate number of traffic policemen would be stationed, at least for the first few days, lest chaos reigns in the BRT corridor\u201d.<\/p>\n
The court\u2019s directions came after all the parties agreed that the existing system of all motorised vehicles plying in bus lane needed to be changed as after opening the reserved bus lane to all vehicles, the traffic situation on the corridor had only worsened.<\/p>\n
