The Rajasthan government Monday announced it would set up a special police station in Jaipur to register and probe female foeticide and infanticide cases across the state, officials said.<\/p>\n
The police station is being set up keeping in view the skewed sex ration and increasing cases of girl children being dumped, they added. According to Census 2011, Rajasthan now has 883 girls between the ages of 0-6 for every 1,000 boys. The child sex ratio in 2001 was 909.<\/p>\n
“Several cases of girl children or foetuses being found abandoned have been reported in the state. Police have failed to solve most of these cases,” said an officer at the chief minister’s office.<\/p>\n
The state government came up with the idea of a special police station to deal with only such incidents, the officer said adding that the cases of Pre-conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (Prohibition of Sex Selection) Act, 1994 will also be taken up here.<\/p>\n
“Employees of the health department will also be deputed in the police station along with the policemen,” said the officer.<\/p>\n
Rajasthan government had also announced in May to form a ‘girls policy’ to protect the girl child.<\/p>\n
The problem of the female foeticide and infanticide in Rajasthan had been highlighted by Bollywood actor Aamir Khan’s debut TV show “Satyamev Jayate”. Aamir had met Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot too on the issue.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
