A Delhi court has increased the rate of compensation awarded by the Centre to a man for acquiring his land saying the earlier rate was “inadequate and unreasonable”.<\/p>\n
Additional District Judge Paramjit Singh enhanced the compensation awarded at the rate of Rs 15.70 lakh per acre by the Land Acquisition Collector (LAC) to Rs 23.93 lakh per acre on a petition filed by Delhi resident Same Singh.<\/p>\n
“The petition is disposed of by holding that compensation awarded to the petitioner at Rs 15.70 lacs per acre by the LAC (West) was inadequate and unreasonable.<\/p>\n
“The petitioner (Singh) is required to be paid the compensation at the rate of Rs 4.98 lakh per bigha ie, Rs 23.93 lakh per acre for the acquired land,” the judge said.<\/p>\n
During the trial, Singh had told the court that his land near Mundka village in West Delhi measuring 2 bigha, 12 biswas was acquired by a government notification of June 17, 2005.<\/p>\n
The LAC had announced on May 31, 2007 a formal award of Rs 15.70 lakh per acre for a piece of land measuring 200 bighas, 14 biswas which also included Singh’s land.<\/p>\n
However, unsatisfied with the quantum of compensation he had received, Singh had moved court for higher compensation.<\/p>\n
The judge granted the relief, referring to a Delhi High Court judgement in respect of the same award made by the LAC in the same village and held that Singh is entitled to the compensation rate of Rs 23,93,227 per acre as held by the high court.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
