The Delhi High Court today asked the CBI to provide the Commonwealth Games Organising Committee the copies of various documents seized by it during its probe into various games-related scams to enable the committee pursue its ongoing arbitral proceedings against various firms.<\/p>\n
“The CWG OC be provided the copies of the documents within four weeks,” Justice Rajiv Shakdher said.<\/p>\n
The court also asked the organising committee to appoint a person within two days to identify various documents which it wanted to use in various arbitral proceedings.<\/p>\n
Disposing of the petition, the bench clarified that the expenses to be incurred in getting the voluminous documents photocopied would be borne by the CWG OC.<\/p>\n
The court was hearing the CWG OC’s plea for a direction to the CBI to provide it the copies of various documents seized by the investigating agency during its probe into various cases against some of the CWG OC office bearers, including Suresh Kalmadi.<\/p>\n
“All the seized documents are our property and they should be given back for enabling us to pursue effectively the various arbitral proceedings which are either initiated by us or by some firms, entrusted with various works for the sporting event,” said the counsel for CWG OC during the hearing.<\/p>\n
The sports body also contended that though some of its former office bearers are facing criminal cases, it is not an accused in any of them and hence it cannot be deprived of its rightful claim over the documents.<\/p>\n
“We have no difficulties in giving the documents to the sports body, but the fact of the matter is that some of them are the part of our charge sheet, filed in some cases before the criminal courts.
