A TV serial producer on Delhi and Srinagar Doordarshan panels has been ordered by a sessions court to pay a monthly interim alimony of Rs 33,000 to his former wife.<\/p>\n
Additional Sessions Judge T R Naval asked TV serial producer-cum-director Khurshid Alam to pay the interim maintenance to his former wife, saying he owns a number of properties and their value indicates he has sufficient income.<\/p>\n
ASJ Naval’s order came on Alam’s appeal against the magisterial court order to pay his former wife Rs 33,000 as interim maintenance.<\/p>\n
Upholding the magisterial court’s order, the sessions court said there was no “infirmity or illegality” in the order, which had assessed his “humongous” income from the fact that he was being treated by a renowned doctor who also used to treat a former President of India.<\/p>\n
“Considering the number of properties and their value, prima facie it can be seen that appellant\/respondent (Alam) has considerable and sufficient income despite the fact that presently he might not have been earning,” the court said.<\/p>\n
Alam, 52, had challenged the trial court’s order saying he is suffering from various ailments including liver cancer and hernia and is spending considerable sum on his treatment and is unable to work since 2003.<\/p>\n
He had also said that he had given divorce to his wife by pronouncing “talaq” thrice.<\/p>\n
Alam’s former wife had earlier moved the trial court seeking Rs 50,000 as maintenance contending that he is “a man of means” and is “financially well off”.<\/p>\n
Alam had married in February 1990 and a girl child was born to the couple. They were earlier living together at their Malviya Nagar residence. The woman had alleged that her husband had been torturing her physically and mentally.<\/p>\n
She had contended that Alam is the owner of Tahura Films, a firm involved in production of films, tele films, tele albums, etc and he is a regular producer on the panel of Delhi and Srinagar (J&K) Doordarshan.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
